One of the most anticipated horror movies of 2026, Curry Barker’s Obsession hits theaters on May 15 via Focus Features and Blumhouse. It’s about a young couple’s relationship gone seriously toxic after one of them makes a wish to be loved by the other more.

In the Obsession movie, after breaking the mysterious One Wish Willow to win his crush Nikki Freeman’s (Inde Navarrette) heart, hopeless romantic Bear (Mike Johnston) finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.

Barker, who cut his teeth making YouTube horror movies and saw his TIFF Midnight Madness title Obsession get snapped up by Focus Features for $15M+ and debut at SXSW, is a hot commodity now. It was announced in April 2026 that he will direct and write a reimagined version of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre for A24.

Meagan Navarro of Bloody Disgusting wrote in her Obsession movie review, “Horror filmmaker Curry Barker (Milk & Serial) wrings blood-curdling terror from a classic Monkey’s Paw wish gone wrong scenario in Obsession. Obsession movie 2026 stars Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter.

James Harris of Teashop Productions, Haley Nicole Johnson of Under the Shell, Christian Mercuri of Capstone Pictures, and Roman Viaris produce. Executive producers include Jason Blum of Blumhouse, Leonora Darby & Mark Lane of Teacup, and David Haring & Ruzanna Kegeyan of Capstone.

Obsession is rated R for “strong bloody violence, grisly images, sexual content, pervasive language, and brief graphic nudity.”
